Storage, Reimagined
In 2022, self storage was still a new concept in Singapore. For LHN Ltd, Y2G converted two floors of an existing building into a secure, well-organised self-storage facility.
The challenge
Dividing large floor plates into many small storage units creates a maze of walls. The key challenge was keeping fire escape routes clear and legible, without obstructing firefighting provisions such as the fire access panels (FAP).
The approach
The layout was planned around existing fixed elements, including exit doors. Rather than blocking the FAP, Y2G turned its position into a break corner with lounge seating, keeping the access clear while giving tenants a place to pause.
Circulation is broken into multiple paths leading to smaller storage zones, each unit secured with a digital lock. Emergency lights mark every turning corner, keeping escape routes easy to follow.
Noticing that tenants had no space to sort or pack within their units, Y2G added a shared pantry and packing corner.
The design
The result is a neat, systematic and secure self-storage facility that looks after its tenants’ everyday needs. Completed in 2022, it was among the first of its kind in Singapore.
